Working on one of the locations for the new Front comic. I’m a cheater! #sketchup jerzydrozd.tumblr.com/post/174536452…
— Jerzy Drozd (@Jerzy) February 11, 2012
I asked for it! I made a joke about “cheating” at my art, and it got some folks rising to defend or dispute the question of whether or not one can cheat at making comics. I give what can only be described as an affirmation for anyone who has ever been called a “cheater”, and try to explore where this misconception comes from.

But when I start?I’m a beginner who knows nothing.Which, come to think of it, is a very good thing.⁰

Today I share some of my experiences in thumbnailing the new Front story I hope to start updating on Sugary Serials in February. I borrow some wisdom from J.M. DeMatteis to help make my points more lucid, but the big idea is that there’s no escape from the terror of thumbnailing a story.

Today I share some thoughts on how a simple nudge from Kim Holm faced me with an inner demon that I suspect comes out of my history with mainstream comics. I don’t land on an answer to the issue, but I ruminate a bit about what my options are.

Today I share some thoughts on how being up against a wall on a deadline forced me to shed all of the tension and anxiety that I build up through the desire to get a “thumbs up” from my audience. Sometimes I, at least, need to remind myself that it’s about the work first.
