Character design color tests: The Big Bad!

Here is the main bad guy for a comics project I’m developing for a client. The guiding thread for the visuals was “Power Rangers villain meets Jack Palance“.

Tools used: pencil, brush pen, and Photoshop. I streamed the inking phase of this character and shared some thoughts about him while I worked, if you care to watch some video of me inking with the Pentel Color Brush Pen.

I tried a couple of other color schemes, but I kept coming back to the classic purples and reds used in a lot of 80s cartoon villain designs. Why fix it if it ain’t broke, right? After all, I’ve done my share of comics villain designs that use other color schemes, like Baron Noirtok of Equalizers of the Divide.
