Opened up my email this morning to a pleasant surprise–I’ve been selected to be a speaker at this year’s Ignite Ann Arbor!

From the website:

If you had five minutes on stage what would you say? What if you only got 20 slides and they rotated automatically after 15 seconds? Around the world geeks have been putting together Ignite nights to show their answers.

I’ll be doing a presentation entitled (yup, you guessed it) Comics Are Great! Where I’ll highlight some reasons why I know this to be true, as well as some ways I’ve used comics in my classrooms to deepen students’ reading comprehension. And you can bet your boots I’ll be mentioning my work with Kids Read Comics there!

It’s going to be a challenge to sum up all of my feelings on the subject in 20 slides and five minutes, but I’m really looking forward to giving it the ol’ Maximal try.

You can see some past Ignite talks here. This year’s event will be on February 9 at 7 pm. Hope to see you there! Can’t make it? You can also watch the event live on Ignite Ann Arbor’s Ustream site.
