Inking fun with my sketches: Azula and Beast Man

So I’ve been asked about whether or not I’d mind if some folks try their inks on top of my sketches. Sounds like a lot of fun to me! I love seeing what other artists do with my work. Even though the penciler/inker relationship was born out of a need for speed in comics publishing, I like how it’s evolved into a “harmonizing” of artistic voices on the page. Thanks to digital technology we don’t even really need inkers anymore, which makes what they do all the more artistic (and therefore more interesting), at least in my book.

I’ve made a .zip file of blue line versions of some of my sketches available for download (22MB – Just control- or right-click to download). Just unzip the file, use your inkjet to print the sketches on your favorite bristol, and have at it! You can post the results in the comments here for all to see. If you post them to your own blog or website, I only ask that you link back to me to give me credit for doing the “pencils” for the piece.

Depending on the response to this, I’ll post more of my sketches in blue line form in the future.
