Drawing for Myself – Jax Epoch

So last night I finally got to read Explorer: The Mystery Boxes, a comics anthology for all ages, put together by Kazu Kibuishi (you’ve probably heard about it–if not, seriously, get this for you and your kids). The terrific piece within by Dave Roman and Raina Telgemeier got all the more fun when I noticed that Jax Epoch made an extended cameo in the story. And it’s Dave’s birthday soon, so I thought I’d steal some time for a warm up sketch using Jax as my subject:

JAX EPOCH vs DICK KOURAGE Pencil and brush pen on 5.5×8.25″ bristol.

Oh, and if you haven’t read Jax Epoch and the Quicken Forbidden by Dave and John Green yet, you can read some of the book online here, or just pull the trigger and get the book now. You don’t have to take my word for it, though. AADL Librarian Sharon Iverson gave it a pretty glowing review at the end of Comics Are Great! episode 21
