If you’re a cartoonist who makes comics for all ages, this message is for you: Let’s get more kids reading your comics!

Saturday, March 12, from 10 am to 8 pm we will be holding a one-day event at the Ann Arbor Art Center called the Kids Read Comics Extravaganza! You can think of this as a “mini-KRC”, featuring live art events, workshops, and opportunities for young people to interact with and learn from cartoonists.

We’re going to be giving away comics to kids during the day, but I’ve always got an eye on raising awareness of the incredible variety of comics to be found outside of the Direct Market industry. So if you’re an independent or self-publishing creator, I’m asking you to donate some mini-comics to be given away at our event.

These minis can be “ashcan” style, just simple b&w photo copied versions of your mini-comic printed on the cheap. I only ask that they are stories for all ages, nothing over PG-13. A few to a handful will be gratefully accepted. Kids will be delighted to get their hands on new comics, and you’ll be spreading the word about your work to an eager audience!

If you wish to donate some comics, you can send them to Green Brain Comics, 13210 Michigan Ave Dearborn, MI 48126. Please mark the package clearly that it’s for the Kids Read Comics Extravaganza. We will be accepting donations until March 10, 2011.

You can also help by printing and distributing this PDF flier to let others know about our event! Also feel free to use the image in this post on your website or blog!

If you’re a cartoonist in the SE Michigan area and you’d like to participate on March 12, contact me and we’ll discuss how you can get involved. I’d love to pack the house with terrific cartoonists!

Thanks in advance for supporting our mission to get more kids reading comics!
