Mark your calendars, comics enthusiasts in the Southeast Michigan area! On Saturday, March 12 from 10 am to 8 pm we will be holding a free event at the Ann Arbor Art Center!

The Kids Read Comics Extravaganza will be a one-day celebration of all ages comics and the cartoonists who make them. The event will be open to the public and offer free activities where you’ll be able to interact with cartoonists as they work, or even participate in hands-on workshops where you can make comics of your very own!

Some of the highlights of this event:

Quick Draw!
Imagine an episode of “Whose Line Is it Anyway?” starring a quartet of quick-thinking cartoonists, and you’ll begin to get the picture of Quick Draw. It’s improvisational cartooning with plenty of audience participation.

Storytelling Workshops
Learn how a cartoonist uses drawings, panel size, and crazy sound effects to immerse their readers in the story! You will be led in an interactive discussion on some of the fundamental comics storytelling principles, after which you’ll be invited to create a short comics story of your own!

Free Sketches for Kids!
Get a sketch of your favorite character or your own creation, drawn by local participating cartoonists.

Free Comics for Kids!
Throughout the day we will be giving away free comic books for kids and teens.

Be sure to check back here and on the Kids Read Comics site for updates on this event as we draw closer to the big day! You can also RSVP via our Facebook event page.

You can help spread the word about the event via this handy PDF Flier, or use some of the web banners below!
