CPTN SRSLY and the SUPER MASTER SENTINELS

I recently completed work on a project for SRSLY, a community organization in Chelsea, Michigan, that creates programs to promote positive learning and values for kids. They contracted me to create an entire super-hero universe around their mascot, CPTN SRSLY (whose name is based on texting language). My first job for them was to create a coloring book adventure comic featuring the new characters.

Probably one of my favorite characters I developed for this series is Dame Ladycat, a super-hero house cat who uses her ninja skills to fight bad manners (kids describe her as a ninja Mary Poppins)

Following the texting language used for the SRSLY name, I came up with the SUPER MASTER SENTINELS (SMS) for the heroes’ team name. For the villains I came up with the MANIACAL MONSTER SYNDICATE (MMS), a team led by the treacherous and ever-bellowing Monstrarch (whose design was inspired by Power Ranger villains and Jack Palance):

I should be getting my comp copies of the book pretty soon, after which I’ll post some more images and info about this project.

Creating a super-hero universe to promote “pro-social” ideas was, as you can imagine, a dream job for me, so I’m super excited to tell more stories about these characters.
