Buckeye Book Fair This Weekend!

If you’re anywhere near NE Ohio this Saturday, November 4, I hope you’ll come out to the Buckeye Book Fair! I’ll be there with copies of Rockets, The Warren Commission Report, and Boulder and Fleet. And at 1pm I’ll be leading another drawing game show with fellow kidlit author/illustrator Merrill Rainey.

I’ll also be hiding some art drops around the conference. It’ll be a lot of fun!

Thunder Punch Special 03 – Conventioning Punch

TPD is back! I took advantage of Richard Stevens’s visit to the United States (and his recent convention experience at Kids Read Comics) to get his perspective on tabling at a convention for the first time. Together we turn his hard-won knowledge into some useful tips for the first-time exhibitor.

I’m back from SPX, and rather than simply cheer about what fun I had, I spend some time this episode sharing a few candid thoughts on some questions that were raised about the value of tabling at conventions. I’m hoping we can take this discussion to the forums, as I’m eager to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Thunder Punch Daily 59 – Conventions: Managing Expectations

Today I share some of the thoughts that are running through my mind as I gear up to table at my first convention in some time: SPX. I wonder aloud about some of my own expectations of the event as well as anticipating what might be the expectations of the crowds that I’ll find at the show. And will my crayon sketches be tacky at such an event? We’ll see.

Thunder Punch Daily 38 – Celebrity and Self-Promotion

Today I leap on some thoughts that occur to me as I head in to Kids Read Comics 2010 and the ongoing convention season. A convention is a great place to meet cartoonists you respect and admire as well as a place to do some healthy self-promotion. I highlight a few unhealthy ways people approach these subjects and share a few reasons why I feel that way.

I did a rantier version on the former topic in an old Art & Story Extreme!!
